"Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is broadly based on the principle of equity and inclusive growth with the object of ensuring mainstream financial services like access to banking facilities, credit and insurance cover to the poor and disadvantaged section," Patnaik said.
Stating that achieving universal financial inclusion is a global objective and has several dimensions like increasing economic activity and employment opportunities for the marginalised sections of the society, Patnaik said it would have a multiplier effect on the economy.
S K Nandi, circle head-cum-convener SLBC (State Level Banking Committee) UCO Bank, said on the first day around 5,20,129 lakh accounts were opened in the state.
Patnaik pointed out that the state government has taken a significant step towards financial inclusion through expansion of banking facility in the state.
"We have planned for opening brick and mortar branches in all unbanked Gram Panchayats of the state by different public and private sector banks as well as Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) by March 31, 2019," he said.
