A car rally by a Naval team
consisting of 15 naval personnel was today flagged off by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral AR Karve, from the Naval Base Kochi here.
The event marked the second leg of the 6100km long rally being undertaken by the crew who commenced the rally from INS Valsura, Jamnagar on Mar 16 covering all the naval installations and places of Naval Maritime Heritage along the west coast before arriving here on Mar 22.
The second leg of the rally entails crossing over to the eastern coast and covering all major installations and prominent points, travelling upto Visakhapatnam before returning back to Jamnagar on Apr2, thereby connecting "Coast to Coast", a defence press release said. Speaking on the Occasion, Vice Admiral Karve said that the rally, being organised to commemorate the platinum Jubilee of INS Valsura, the electrical training college of the Indian Navy, is primarily intended to reach out and connect with the youth and children of the country to spread awareness about the Navy and also to interact with the ex-srvicemen, war veterans and 'Veer Naris' (naval widows).
The team would, during their east coast leg upto Visakahapatnam, undertake numerous interactions with schools and colleges at Puducherry, Nellore & Rajahmundry which would be followed by Hyderabad, Pune and Vadodara enroute to Jamnagar.
