Welcoming Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif's visit to New Delhi to attend Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony, radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa today said the two leaders should discuss building a free walkway corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib.
Senior Dal Khalsa leader Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib said the two leaders must look into the long-standing demand for the corridor between Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district and Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.
The issue was first raised in 1998 to enable Sikh pilgrims to have freedom to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib without visa or passport, he said.
He urge both the leaders to take up this long-pending demand of Sikhs, and opening of Attari/Wagah border on the Indo-Nepal pattern and setting up of a Pakistani consulate at Amritsar for discussion during their talks on May 27, a day after Modi's swearing-in.
He said the people of Amritsar awaits Nawaz and hopes that the Pakistani Prime Minister would find time to visit his home town, Amritsar, soon.
