Naxal attack: Martyred MP jawan cremated; govt announces Rs 25 lakh aid

The mortal remains of CRPF jawan Narayan Sonkar, who was among 25 troopers killed in an ambush by naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday, were consigned to flames at his ancestral village with full state honours today.
A large number of villagers bid a tearful adieu to Sonkar (42) who hailed from Gangteera village under Tyonthar block in Rewa district.
His son lit the funeral pyre while a customary salute was given by the armed forces.
Sonkar's body was brought to Rewa yesterday in a helicopter from where it was taken to his ancestral village Gangteera for the last rites.
The state government has announced a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh, a plot of land or a flat to the family members of Sonkar.
In addition, the state government has offered a job to Sonkar's wife and has also announced to install his statue.

"While expressing grief over the demise of the CRPF jawan, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced to provide Rs 25 lakh to the family members as 'Samman Nidhi', besides a plot or a flat to his family," a Public Relation department official said.
"If the wife of the martyr so desires, she will be given a government job. Besides, a statue of the martyr will be installed in Rewa district or at the spot where his family wishes," according to the official.
Madhya Pradesh minister Rajendra Shukla, Rewa MP Janardhan Mishra, district collector Rahul Jain and SP Sanjay Kumar were among those who paid tributes to the jawan.
