Naxal who had escaped from jail in 2007, nabbed again

A Naxal, who had escaped from jail in Dantewada in 2007, was arrested from the Jiram valley area of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bastar district today, the police said.
Kawasi Pandu (40), native of Tongpal area of the neighbouring Sukma district, was nabbed from Jhadipara in Jiram village under the Darbha police station limits, Bastar additional superintendent of police Vijay Pandey told PTI.
Pandu was among the 299 inmates including 110 Naxals who had fled on December 16, 2007, after a jail break at the Central Jail of Dantewada district of the state.
During a search operation today, the security forces got information about presence of a Naxal in Jiram area, around 350 km away from the state capital, following which they cordoned off the place and apprehended Pandu, the ASP said.
He was allegedly involved in several incidents of Naxal violence in the region, the police officer added.
Security in theinsurgency-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, particularity the Bastar region,has been heightened as the Naxals are observing 'Peoples' LiberationGuerrillaArmy week'from December 2-8 to commemorate their slain leaders.
Naxals usually hold meetings and gatherings during this period to spread their propaganda, recruit new members, review military operations, etc., and also damage roads, public property and carry out attacks on security forces.
