Nay inducts 137 officer trainees

Navy today formally inducted 137 officer trainees after weeks long rigorous sea training.
An impressive passing out parade of 137 officer trainees, who were given extensive instructions and practical experience on general navigation, astro navigation, communications, gunnery and seamanship, was held at the Naval base here today.
The sea training of 24 weeks had commenced on December 29 last year, a Navy release said.
The sea trainees visited various ports on East and West Coast of India and got an opportunity to sail overseas to Surabaya (Indonesia), Port Klang (Malaysia), Chittagong (Bangladesh) and Trincomalee (Sri Lanka).
The sea trainees underwent their sail training phase onboard INS Sudarshini and Tarangini, which provided them with first-hand understanding of the rigours of life at sea, helping them get their 'sea legs' and developing a Seamen eye in addition to instilling a spirit of adventure, the release said.
Rear Admiral R B Pandit, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Naval Command was the chief guest on this occasion.

In his address, the admiral highlighted the future growth of Indian Navy and adviced the trainees to take up challenging responsibilities in their career.
The coveted Chief of the Naval Staff trophy and Telescope for the Best All Round Sea Trainee was awarded to Sea Trainee Vipul Chandra Petwal.
The officers will join various frontline warships of Western and Eastern Fleet for further six months of afloat training.
