Nayagarh explosion toll mounts to seven

The death toll in a cracker unit explosion in Odisha's Nayagarh district mounted to seven today as one of the injured succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Gurubari Mohapatra (55) of Palisasan village in the district had sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries in the last week's mishap.
While one person died on the spot and another succumbed to injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital on September 23, the day of explosion, four others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment here the next day.
"Of the ten injured brought here, six have died and condition of the remaining four are still critical," Cuttack Hospital Emergency Officer B N Moharana said.
State law minister Arun Sahu had visited the victims at the hospital. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh each to the families of the deceased.
The state government is bearing the expense of treatment of the injured.
