NBC has cancelled "Emerald City", its modern and dark re-imagining of L. Frank Baum's famous tale "The Wizard of Oz", after airing only one season.
Debuting in January, "Emerald City" struggled to attract audience despite being supported by impressive talent such as director Tarsem Singh and actor Vincent D'Onofrio as the Wizard of Oz, reported Ace Showbiz.
NBC pulled the plug on "Emerald City" in August 2014 after promoting it at Comic-Con.
The network then retooled the project with different writer, David Schulner, and picked it up with a 10-episode straight-to-series order in April 2015.
"Emerald City" is the second freshman to be yanked by NBC, after DC comedy series "Powerless" was pulled from schedule.
Showrunner Patrick Schumaker, however, insisted that the show's "not officially cancelled yet.
