National Conference legislator Devender Singh Rana today sought the Legislative Council Chairman's decision on a Congress member's remarks that the constitution of the Privileges Committee for summoning former Army Chief V K Singh to the House was "illegal".
"I want to seek a decision from Chairman Amrit Malhotra over the objection raised by member of the Privileges Committee Ravinder Sharma that the committee on summoning of Singh was illegal," Rana asked the Chairman in the House.
He was backed by NC members B A Veeri and Ajay Sadhotra, and even Congress Member Jahangir Mir, in seeking decision of the Chairman over the issue in the House.
Congress member Ravinder Sharma supported by G N Monga and others had termed the Privileges Committee as "illegal".
However, the Chairman said, "You cannot force me to deliver my decision in the House. I will announce my decision over it."
Former Army Chief Gen (Retd) V K Singh failed to appear before a Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council panel over his controversial remarks against state leaders on January 22.
Congress member Ravinder Sharma termed the committee as "illegal" and the matter was referred for the decision to the Chairman of Council on January 22.
