Ghulam Nabi Itoo was shot at by the militant while he was returning home from a mosque after offering prayers at Raepora Kalan in Pattan area, 31 km from here, the police said.
He was rushed to sub-district hospital Pattan where doctors pronounced him dead, they said.
No militant outfit immediately claimed responsibility for the killing.
