NCB busts inter-state gang of smugglers in Amritsar

The Narcotics Control Bureau today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of smugglers in Amritsar with the arrest of four people while seizing three kg of charas from them.
Under the supervision of NCB Zonal Director Kaustubh Sharma, a 'naka' was laid on Kathunangal toll barrier near Amritsar yesterday.
"A car was intercepted at the 'naka' from which three kg of charas was seized. The same was being transported from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh to Amritsar in Punajb by three drug smugglers," it said.
The NCB had been receiving information about the smuggling of charas from Himachal Pradesh to Amritsar since last few weeks, an official release said here.
On preliminary questioning, all the three disclosed that they were going to deliver the contraband to a person in Amritsar, the release said.
Immediate steps were taken and consequently the link person was nabbed from Walah Mandi, Amritsar, who was waiting there for receiving the consignment of charas, it said.
"With the apprehension of these four smugglers, the NCB has busted the inter-state drug syndicate," the release stated.
A case has been registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by the NCB, Amritsar, against all the four alleged drug smugglers, it added.
