NCB seizes 80,000 restricted medicine tablets; arrests two

Authorities of the Delhi zonal unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted searches at few locations in South Delhi and recovered more than 80,000 illegal tablets of anti-depressants as they arrested two youths-- identified as Sanjay Kumar Pandey and Mahabir Singh, both residents of Sonepat in Haryana.

The duo were residing in the Mahipalpur area of the national capital and they used to send illegal consignments of these tablets by speed post couriers to locations in the United States and Canada, sources involved in the day-long operation said.

The duo, according to sources, were involved in this trade for the last three years and were using Delhi and other cities to operate.

Among the seized tablets are packets of Lorazepam, Alprazolam, Diazepam, Clonazepam and Zolpidem, they said.

The market value of the consignment is worth few lakhs and the duo have been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
