The NCB along with Punjab police and the Song and Drama division of the Information and Broadcasting ministry took out a road show and conducted a play yesterday to highlight the ill-effects of drugs on health and the society at large.
Chandigarh, being in the vicinity to the Indo-Pakistan border, is vulnerable to the illegal trade and transit of banned drugs like heroin, cocaine and other contraband.
A signature campaign - pledging a 'say no to drugs' - was also carried out by students of Panjab University, various social service clubs and personnel of state police and CISF.
NCB Zonal Director Rohit Katiyar, during the event, urged the youth to stay away from drugs and report to the agency if they come across any instances of illegal drug trafficking.
The international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is observed on June 26 every year and various events are conducted by government agencies across the country to convey the message against narcotics usage, especially amongst the youth.
