The National Cadet Corps of Kerala can now undergo flight training as two 'Zen Air' microlite aircraft belonging to two Kerala Air squadrons, based at Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi respectively, have recommenced flying after a break of over three years.
Due to maintenance issues of engine overhaul and spares, as well as other administrative reasons, flight training for NCC cadets of Kerala has been a distant dream for over three years now.
"This dream turned into reality yesterday, as four cadets belonging to the two Air squadrons took to the sky from Naval Air Base, INS Garuda, Kochi" a Defence release said here today.
Commanding officers of the two Air Squadrons Wing Commander S K Menon and Wing Commander V Ganesh Narayanan, took the cadets on their maiden air experience in two microlite aircrafts.
The flight was preceded by a solemn prayer ceremony.
The recommencement was attended by CommodoreAnand Balakrishnan, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Ernakulam as well as dignitaries of Headquarters Southern Naval Command, INS Venduruthy and INS Garuda.
"Recommencement of flying will give a big boost to morale of NCC Cadets and will serve as a catalyst to motivate them to touch the sky with glory, as the IAF motto goes," the release added.
