The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is setting up an academy in the city at a cost of Rs 36 crore, an official said today.
It will be first such academy in the Saurashtra region of the state - and the second in Gujarat - and its foundation will be laid on March 15, the official said.
"The NCC has decided to set up its first academy in Rajkot. This would be the second such academy in the state after Rajpipla in Narmada district," Brigadier Ajit Singh, Group Commander, NCC Rajkot, said here.
"Major General S C Sharan, Additional Director General of NCC Gujarat, will attend the foundation stone laying ceremony," he said.
The academy will be set up in association with the local civic body, Singh said.
"The new academy is planned to be set up in the Mavdi Road area of the city. It would be developed in a phased manner," said the Brigadier.
"The state government has allocated 14 acres of land and also released necessary funds of Rs 20 lakh for the first phase," he said, adding the entire project would cost around Rs 36 crore.
The NCC would organise its "C" certificate convocation function at Bhavnagar on March 14, Singh added.
