National Commission for Minorities will work with a real estate website and Shehzad Poonawala, AIMA founder, to deal with cases of prejudice against Muslims in property matters.
Poonawala and Sanjeev Bikhchandani of real estate website '99acres.Com' met NCM Chairperson Wajahat Habibullah today to discuss the issue.
The Commission has accepted their offer to develop policy recommendations against discrimination of minorities, particularly Muslims, on religious/ethnic grounds in real estate sector.
Asked about the issue, Habibullah said, "It's true. They met me and we will work together on this issue."
99acres.Com will spread awareness among real estate broker community and educate them about the discriminatory practices, introduce a software check if a listing carries the name of any religion, caste or community and take other measures.
Poonawala had petitioned NCM against such practices earlier and also vocally campaigned on social media as well as TV and print media against such practices.
He had suggested to all stake-holders of the industry to create a fair housing policy that prohibits discrimination not just against Muslims but also those from other communities.
