In a bid to provide the people of Jammu province equal representation in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the NCP today stressed upon the formation of Delimitation Commission in the state before the 2014 Assembly elections.
"Delimitation Commission should be formed before the Assembly election so that the people of Jammu province get equal representation in the state Assembly based on population, geographical area and voters," state NCP General Secretary and spokesperson Sudarshan Choudhary told reporters here.
Coudhary accused the ruling coalition of not doing anything in this regard even after the lapse of over four years of their tenure and despite making promises that the constitution of Commission will be on top of their agenda.
"It is the Congress who got maximum assembly seats from Jammu province but even after remaining four years in power, they have not issued even a single statement in this regard so far," he said.
Kashmir Province has 46 Assembly seats where as Jammu has only 37 assembly seats, but the geographical area, voters and population of Jammu region is much more than the Kashmir Province, the NCP leader added.
The Delimitation Commission is aimed at carving out new Assembly segments in the state according to the population and geographical area, but in 2002 the process was suspended by a resolution in Parliament till 2026.
