Opposition NCP today tried to corner Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan on his reported remarks that a contractor had offered him a huge bribe and demanded that a narco test be conducted on the minister to bring the truth out of his "suspicious" claims.
"Mahajan's remarks that he was offered bribe of Rs 100 crore to retain the tenders issued during the Congress-NCP regime are suspicious and people of the state should know the truth," NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said.
Mahajan caused a sensation when he said that he had stayed work orders worth Rs 1,100 crore which were hastily cleared ahead of elections by the Congress-led UPA government in the state.
"Contractors approached me with offers of unbelievable amounts of Rs 100 crore for retaining those work orders," the BJP leader had reportedly said.
Malik alleged that Mahajan was not revealing name of the contractor concerned because the latter has links with BJP.
"Mahajan should reveal the name of the contractor who offered the bribe. Did he (Mahajan) file a complaint with Anti-Corruption Bureau against the contractor who tried to lure a responsible person in government?" Malik asked.
A narco test should be conducted on the minister so that people will know the truth, Malik said.
