Ending speculation, NCP has decided to attend the international conference convened by Congress to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar has asked NCP general secretary D P Tripathi to attend the two-day event startong on Monday and Tripathi has already intimated Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel in this regard.
Congress has not invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any other other BJP leader to the conference it is organising to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Nehru, joining the battle with Modi who it accuses of trying to appropriate the legacy of freedom movement leaders.
The party has at the same extended the invitation to a number of non-BJP parties and leaders including Modi's known detractors Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar from Trinamool Congress and Janata Dal United respectively.
Sonia Gandhi had written a letter inviting Pawar on November 6 and, on the same day, the NCP chief had written back back expressing his inability to attend the event owing to his party's Maharashtra unit's two-day convention at Alibag which coincided with the Congress event.
