"NCP would make a serious endeavour to emerge as potential Third Front and work for defeat of both BJP and Congress in the state and concentrate of selected seats", President of the party's state unit Aniruddh Sharma and former assembly Speaker Radha Raman Shastri told reporters here.

"We are in touch with a large number of senior and established leaders of BJP and Congress and very soon a large number of leaders from both the parties would join NCP", they claimed.

Shastri, who is likely to contest from Shimla assembly constituency, claimed some "very important" leaders from major political parties are expected to join NCP and the moment they quit their parties, the political equations in the state would undergo a sea change.

Asked about tie-up with Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) or some other party, Shastri said NCP and Congress have alliance at the Centre and in Maharashtra but the state units were free to take any decision and in Himachal Pradesh the party would go it alone.

Projecting a hung assembly in the state, he claimed in that event NCP would have an effective role to play in the formation and running the government.
