Nationalist Congress Party will contest, on its own, the forthcoming Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation polls, the party city chief Rajesh Soni said today.
"The NCP will contest the upcoming AMC elections and will field its candidate in all the 48 wards of the city," Soni told reporters.
"We have nominated 'ward-pramukhs' (chief of the ward) in all 48 wards to reach out to the people and to know about their problems," Soni said adding the ward-pramukhs will nominate candidates for the party from that particular area.
The civic body is presently ruled by BJP and the polls are scheduled to held later this year.
Soni said the NCP workers will make people aware about the "fake" promise made by BJP of giving 24 hours power supply and to provide good roads.
"In the rule of BJP, roads have been dug all around the city and the people cannot ascertain whether these pits are in the city or this city has become a big pit at a time when monsoon is near and if our citizens will meet any mishap in near future who will be held responsible," said Soni.

"Around 19 main roads of the city have been closed due to such digging and people have to bear a lot due to this," he said.
"We will give a memorandum to the AMC commissioner D Thara tomorrow and request her to do the needful in the issues and if no actions are taken, we will lead a protest," the NCP leader said.
In the last AMC polls, Congress and NCP had contested as allies.
When asked why NCP is going solo, Soni said their alliance with Congress has broken at the time of Maharashtra assembly election (last year) and now they have chosen to fight alone.
NCP and Congress share same vote-bank, however we also have our loyal voters who will favour us to route out the BJP, Soni said.
NCP had been able to win only one seat in the last civic polls held in 2010 out of the 64 seats.
