The United Democratic Party (UDP) has suggested for an urgent political dialogue to break the deadlock that continues between the government and the NGOs over inclusion of "dubious" voters in the electoral roll of the state.
"The issue of bogus and doubtful voters is real and needs to be addressed, without impugning on the rights of genuine non-tribal voters," UDP Working President Paul Lyngdoh said, in a statement.
Expressing support to the call of the UDP said "the issue needs to be discussed at all level with the NGOs."
"While we extend our support the call of the UDP, we feel the government should have taken more initiatives when the talks with the NGOs failed," Leader of Opposition, Conrad K Sangma told reporters here.
Last week, talks between the government and the NGOs on the issue of enrolment of "dubious" voters in the state was inconclusive which led to the NGOs furthering their agitation.
"The points raised by the NGOs are valid and the government should have atleast assured them that their points would be discussed with the Election Commission of India," Conrad said. PTI JOP AMD
