NCSC member meets families of 5 men killed while cleaning well

A member of National Commission for Scheduled Castes today here met the families of the five men who died after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a well in Nidana village in the district.
NCSC member Ishwar Singh met the next of kins of the victims and assured them that action would be taken in connection with delay in providing help to the victims.
He also assured that the commission would direct authorities concerned to provide jobs to victims' next of kins on compensatory grounds.
Five persons went down the well in the village to clean it and all of them died due to poisonous gas inside it.
The victims were identified as Mohan (18), Dinesh (18), Sanjay (20), Sukhchain (20) and Mahipal (35), all residents of the village.
According to villagers, as the residents of Dhanak Colony were facing acute shortage of drinking water the five decided to clean the well which was in a state of disuse.
The District Collector had announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
