The National Commission for Women in collaboration with Airbnb is training women in tourism and hospitality sector to provide livelihood opportunities to them.

A workshop, 'Home Stay Tourism', was held in association with Gujarat State Women Commission and AirBnB at Sasan Gir.

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma gave the opening address, and emphasized the need for enabling women to have additional sources of income and livelihood.

She added that financial empowerment paves the way for a more confident and independent individual.

Sharma said digital training was given to prospective women entrepreneurs to generate technology-enabled livelihood opportunities in tourism and hospitality.

Specific focus was given to develop home stay tourism and how it would help empowering the women both economically and socially.

Seventy-five rural women from surrounding areas participated in the second edition of the workshop in Gujarat. Successful women entrepreneurs shared their experiences with the other participants, the NCW said in a statement.

So far, NCW has organised five similar workshops, four in the northeastern states of the country and one in Gujarat.
