National Commission for Women (NCW) today began inquiry into the mysterious death of a lady doctor, whose body was found on railway track at Malatipatpur in Odisha's Puri district.
An NCW team led by its member Charu Walikhanna met family members of the deceased doctor Madhabilata Pradhan at Brahmagiri, besides holding talks with district administration of Puri. The team is likely to submit its report within 10 days, officials said.
Madhabilata, an Ayush doctor posted on contractual basis, was transfered from a hospital in Brahmagiri to a community health centre in Malatipatpur area in Puri district. Her body was found on railway track at Malatipatpur on October 12, 2012.
"The reason of her death could be due to the transfer," Walikhanna said.
She also expressed displeasure over the trauma the doctor's family members have been passing through ever since the incident happened.
"Why the family is in a frightened state? This need to be investigated," the NCW member said.
The state government on November 6 last year had ordered a Crime Branch probe into the incident. The opposition parties and family members of the deceased doctor had demanded CBI probe into the matter alleging involvement of a ruling party leader.
