NCW conducts gender sensitization training programme for Uttarakhand police personnel

A team of experts from the National Commission for Women today conducted a gender sensitisation programme in Dehradun to bring a higher level of sensitivity among police personnel who are the first point of contact for women in distress, the women rights body said.

Over 150 officers of the rank of constables to IPS- level officers of the Uttarakhand Police participated in the Gender Sensitisation Programme chaired by Alok Rawat, a member of the NCW, a statement by the NCW said.

Topics covering issues such as Introduction to Gender Issues and Sensitisation', NRI Issues and Importance of FIR in Crimes related to Women', Cyber Crime Against Women - Issues and Redressal', and Women related laws like Domestic Violence/Dowry Prohibition Act/498-A' were addressed in the programme, it said.

The commission had been taking the sensitisation project from state-to-state across the country. The goal is to sensitise officers on gender issues and empower the police force with the ability to perform their duties more effectively and without prejudice and discrimination, it said.

On Tuesday, a similar workshop was organised in Patna where cyber law expert Rakshit Tandon trained police officers on topics covering a wide ambit of issues such as cyber security, accessibility of police in crime against women, matrimonial offences and role of police.
