In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Women and Child Development minister Krishna Tirath listed these recommendations.
The NCW has recommended that State Commission for Women should help these women get legal aid besides providing counselling and psychological support.
It has also suggested setting up of a special cell for women in hospitals and a separate kitchen in the female wing of the jail to improve the quality of the food.
Tirath said that another recommendation made by the NCW was that women inmates should be provided some vocational training while their children should also be provided education related training.
Other recommendations included providing TV sets, regular review of cases, improving sanitary conditions and also opening of regular middle schools, she said.
In the reply, Tirath said that in the year 2011-12, NCW had visited District jail, Ghaziabad in UP, Sub Jail in Sada Vasco in Goa, Women's Correctional Home in Alipur, West Bengal and Yerwada Women's Prison in Pune in Maharashtra.
She also said that prison was a state subject.
