NCW institutes probe into Bihar gangrape case

National Commission for Women has instituted an inquiry into the gangrape of a 21-year-old woman in Bihar's Motihar, its chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said today.
"A member of NCW is on her way to Bihar. The investigation will commence tomorrow. Our member will be speaking with the rape survivor, her family and the police," Kumaramangalam said.
Commission member Supriya Sahu, who is visiting Bihar said, "I will speak to the gangrape-survivor and investigate why there was a delay on the part of the local police in filing an FIR."
"How can the DIG say there has been an attempt to rape? That's a very silly and irresponsible statement," she said, adding, "If I find that the local police was slacking, then I will write to the Home Minister seeking suitable action."

The woman was allegedly gangraped last week when the accused persons stormed into her house and dragged her out at gunpoint in front of her parents and neighbours. They allegedly brutalised her by inserting a pistol and a wooden stick into her private parts.
