NDFB(S) militant killed in Kokrajhar

A hardcore NDFB(Songbijit) militant was killed in an encounter with the police today in Kokrajhar district of Assam along the Indo-Bhutan border, a senior police officer said.
Acting on a tip off, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Sreejit T carried out a search operation in the Labanyapur-Ultapani area where the insurgent exchanged fire with the security forces, S P Kokrajhar district Shymal Prasad Saikia told reporters here.
The slain ultra was identified as Rajib Basumatary alias Mergom, who had fled from police custody on July 13 near Choibari Tea Garden under Kokrajhar PS on the way to Kokrajhar district jail from NIA court in Guwahati, Saikia said.

Police recovered a .22 mm pistol with three rounds live ammunitions, two hand grenades and few empty fired cases from the spot, he said.
Meanwhile, an NDFB(S) linkman Binod Muchahary was arrested from Simborgaon area under Kokrajhar police station, Saikia added.
