A hardcore NDFB (Songbijit) faction militant was killed in an encounter with police today at Daifangjiri in Assam's Sonitpur district near the inter-state border with Arunachal Pradesh.
According to district Superintendent of Police Arabinda Kalita, two insurgents on a motorcycle coming from a forest area, under Charduar police station, fired at a police team when they were asked to stop and tried to flee.
In the retaliatory fire by police, one of the underground cadres was seriously injured and admitted to Tezpur Kanaklata civil hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds and the other cadre escaped, Kalita said.
Two grenades, one pistol, four live ammunition and a bike were recovered from the slain militant, he said.
The insurgents were coming out of a forest area at Daifanjiri near 12 mile where the NDFB(S) had abducted NHPC General Manager Anil Kumar Agarwal on September 21 when he was on way from Tawang to Guwahati.
Today's encounter is the second since yesterday in the district when another cadre of the Songbijit faction killed at Damanpur near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
Police recovered a pistol, two magazines and seven rounds of live ammunition.
