NDMA Media Sensitisation Workshop on earthquake

A media sensitisation workshop was held here today by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to create awareness about preparedness and management of earthquake.
Journalists from different media houses and representatives of all the eight North East states attended the Workshop 'Mw 8.1 Shillong 1897 Earthquake Scenario: NE Multi-State Preparedness Campaign'.
The workshop was an attempt to sensitise the media on a mega mock exercise from March 10 to 13 next in the eight states so that the media can help spread awareness message to facilitate the NDMA to help society in the crisis situation.
The workshop was lead by NDMA Member T Nanda Kumar in association with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority and CSIR-NeIST, Jorhat.
The salient features discussed were on preparedness, mitigation, response, awareness, school sensitisation programmes, creation of Mass awareness, rapid visual screening of lifeline buildings and capacity development programmes.
The Multi-State Mega Mock Exercise is scheduled to be held in two groups in the individual NE state capitals and district headquarters towns, sourcs at the workshop said.
Group I on March 10 would include Arunachal Pradesh (Itanagar and Ziro), Assam (Guwahati and Jorhat), Meghalaya (Shillong and Tura), and Sikkim (Gangtok and Mangan).
Group II on March 13 would include Assam (Silchar), Nagaland (Dimapur and Kohima), Manipur (Imphal and Thoubal), Tripura (Agartala and Ambassa) and Mizoram (Aizawl and Serchhip).
