Official sources today said an assurance in this regard was given by a team of NDMA members during a meeting with senior Assam government officials held here yesterday.
NDMA members V K Duggal and K M Singh had visited Guwahati yesterday and undertaken a review of recent floods in the state.
"The Assam Chief Secretary highlighted the inadequacy of the River Gauging station in Tinsukia in upper Assam. He also pointed out the difficulty in getting historical data from the CWC as the same was classified. Duggal said the issue will be raised with the union Ministry of Water Resources," the sources said.
The state government officials also urged NDMA to consider including erosion as a natural calamity in the State Disaster Response Fund and make a recommendation in this regard before the central government.
The meeting was also attended by Assam Water Resources minister Rajib Lochan Pegu.
Officials from the state government side informed the NDMA team about flood preparedness and mitigation initiatives in Assam, besides the Flood Early Warning System implemented here in collaboration with the North East Space Applications Centre, the sources said.
