NDMC appeals to Naidu to regularise colonies post demolition
Press Trust of India New Delhi North Delhi Municipal Corporation has requested Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu to "regularise" those properties which were earlier provided temporary relaxation from sealing and demolition till 2017 by the Centre.
The request was made through a letter sent by Chairman of the Works Committee of the civic body, Pravesh Wahi, the NDMC said.
Exempted properties should be regularised by taking appropriate charges, adding, it would also "reduce illegal constructions and corruption" along with increasing the corporation's revenue and improving its financial condition, the NDMC quoted Wahi as saying in a statement today.
Wahi said that by regularising these properties, national properties can also be saved.
In a move aimed at wooing voters ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Union Cabinet had cleared a draft bill that has given unauthorised properties that came up before 2007, immunity from sealing and demolition till 2017.
