Municipal hospitals and other health institutions in north Delhi are set to be stocked with medicine supplies for the next two years, as the decision-making panel of the area's civic body approved a proposal in this regard.
"Procurement of these medicines at cheaper rates will ensure regular supply of drugs and other consumables to the citizens for free. It will also end shortage, if any," Pravesh Wahi, chairman of the Standing Committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), said today.
There will be sufficient supply of medicines and drugs of different categories in the medical institutions of the civic body for the next two years as the proposal for procurement has been passed by the standing committee, he said.
NDMC provides free medicines to citizens through its various medical institutions.
"Medicines, which are being provided free of cost by the Union and Delhi governments under its various programmes like TB or AIDS control, have not been included in the list of medicines to be purchased," Wahi was quoted as saying in the NDMC statement.
He said as per the policy approved by the civic body, online tenders were invited under two-bid system for fixing the rate, contract and agency for procuring various medicines and other medical supplies.

"An inventory/drug selection committee was constituted to prepare the inventory for all groups of medicines and as per its recommendations, new drugs were included while the obsolete ones were removed," Wahi said.
He also said, "The north corporation will disburse old-age pension for three months in view of Delhi government's inability to do so."
"All deputy commissioners have been requested to ensure the genuineness of pensioners and their eligibility for the same. An order to this effect has already been issued," Wahi said.
