A meeting of the NDMC House passed the resolution seeking exemption for property owners from mixed use charges payment from the new financial year beginning on April 1 this year.
The mixed use charges are levied at the rate of per square meter, in the range of Rs 192-767 for A and B category colonies, Rs 128-511 for C and D categories, and Rs 48-192 for E, F and G categories since 2006-07.
The NDMC has passed the resolution seeking exemption since it does not provide any additional or special civic amenities in the area from where the mixed use charges are levied, said the resolution passed by the House of Councillors.
The resolution, if accepted by the central government, will benefit over 50,000 shop owners in NDMC areas who pay the mixed use charge since 2006-07.
There are a total of 50,350 shops abutting 1,244 mixed land use roads that will be benefited if the resolution gets approved by the Centre, a senior NDMC official said.
