The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has proposed to give a facelift to the middle circle of the Connaught Place, to lend the whole market area a uniform revamped look.
"There is a proposal to give a facelift to the buildings in the middle circle so that the area bears a revamped look including uniform corridor flooring, corridor lighting and external surface finishes," a senior NDMC official said.
"Presently, loose cables are strewn all over the place which will also be arranged in an organised manner. There will also be a focus on facade illumination " he said, adding, no time-frame has been decided yet for the project.
The Connaught Place Redevelopment project was conceived in 2004 and was scheduled for completion ahead of the Commonwealth Games in October, 2010.
However, the revamped look sans the upgrading of the middle circle was inaugurated in 2013 after the civic body had missed a series of deadlines.
"We have already restored the columns, walls and cornices of the market place to their original design. With major parts of the market place being revamped, some buildings still lack the upgraded look, which will be taken care of now," the official said.
The Central Park in Connaught Place, which boasts of the highest monumental flagpole in the national capital, is also set to get a makeover soon with NDMC planning to turn it into a tourist spot.
The park is set to get a dancing musical fountain, which would also act as a water screen for 3D laser shows. Besides installation of various sculptures, the existing amphitheatre will also be beautified with all-season floral landscaping and the premises would be made more secure with disaster management arrangements.
