Union Minister of Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said this in response to a question on disbursement of salaries to the employees of the three municipal corporations in the city.
"The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has informed that there is no pendency of disbursement of salary to its employees.
"The NDMC has informed that there has been only one strike by the staff in the year 2015-16 due to non-payment of salary on time.
"The NDMC has further informed that the salaries of all the employees have been disbursed up to December 2016 and the Group D (including swachhta karmacharis), Group C and Group B (nurses) employees have also been paid salary for the month of January 2017," he said.
Ahir told the House that the NDMC and EDMC have said that the reason for delay in disbursement of salaries is due to "shortage of funds".
In response to another question, he said the three corporations have pending liabilities -- NDMC (Rs 2385.45 crore), SDMC (Rs 907.24 crore) and EDMC (Rs 1589.08 crore) -- apart from those on account of employees, which includes the contractor's liability and outstanding loan from Delhi government.
