NDMC and SDMC both share their office spaces in the towering Civic Centre located in the territorial jurisdiction of the north corporation, which has alleged that the south corporation "owes it a huge rent and licence fee".
"After the trifurcation, while EDMC moved to east Delhi, SDMC has continued to stay. They owe us Rs 810 crore in rent and licence fee, and we have been sending them notices from 2015 onwards but to no avail," a senior civic official said.
The office was sealed around 8:30 AM, but the SDMC broke the seal by 11 AM, sources said.
The Civic Centre was built a few years before the trifurcation of the then unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in 2012 into NDMC, SDMC and EDMC.
The EDMC soon after the trifurcation moved to a new space in Patparganj in east Delhi. It has already set the ball rolling for constructing its new headquarters buildings on the lines of the Civic Centre.
