With water woes in many parts of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the civic body has decided to "strictly" implement the provision of water harvesting as per building bye-laws in plots measuring 100 square meters or more.
"The problem of water is worsening with water level going down which has necessitated water harvesting. We will strictly follow related rules for equipping buildings and other plots in area measuring 100 sq meter or more in corporation areas," said Rajesh Bhatia, vice chairman of NDMC standing committee.
As per a Government of India notification, water harvesting provision is necessary for construction of plots measuring 100 square meters under the Building Bye-laws 1983, he said.
The zonal building department offices make sure that water harvesting rule is followed while issuing occupancy certificates for newly constructed buildings.
"We have asked the building department offices in the zones to strictly follow the rules regarding water harvesting in the case of 100 square meter plots."
Bhatia had also floated a proposal for providing funds to ward councillors to take up five water harvesting projects annually.
