NDRF gets new ADG

Government has appointed senior
IPS officer Mahboob Alam as the new Additional Director General of the NDRF -- country's mainstay force for countering natural and man-made calamities.
The force is headed by a DG rank officer and this is the first time it is getting a second-in-command as an ADG as till now it used to be an Inspector General rank officer.
Sources said the Union Home Ministry issued orders in this regard today.
Alam, a 1981-batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, was till now serving as the ADG in border guarding force Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is a 100 per cent deputationist force with its ranks being filled by paramilitary personnel from forces like CRPF, SSB, BSF, ITBP and CISF.
The force has close to 10,000 personnel in its ranks and its remarkable role was highlighted during the recent rescue and relief operations in Uttarakhand which was hit by devastating flash floods and rains recently.
