NDRF pre-deploys 36 teams in vulnerable areas after heavy

With monsoon rains lashing various parts of the country, NDRF has positioned its three dozen relief and rescue teams in vulnerable states and also alerted its squads at over 10 locations to tackle floods, landslides and other related disasters.
"Thirty-six NDRF teams have been pre-positioned at 32 flood-prone locations in view of flood situations...All teams are equipped with tools. Based on monsoon forecast and prediction of the IMD, NDRF teams all over the country have been relocated keeping in view the flood vulnerability," the force said.
Also, 35 permanent locations of the National Disaster Response Force are in readiness "to assist the state governments in view of flood situation in the country," it said.
Learning from past experiences, NDRF Director General O P Singh had sometime ago directed his teams to get pre-deployed or relocate according to emerging scenario and keep extra vigil at locations where rains and floods begin wreaking havoc during monsoon.
Also in the last three months, NDRF has sensitised over 1.83 lakh people across the country about disaster management.
The decision to carry out these first time preparation strategies was taken during an annual conference hosted by NDRF here in April which was attended by representatives of Disaster Response Force of 18 states.
NDRF has trained close to 10,000 personnel of various State Disaster Response Force (SDRFs) to undertake relief and rescue tasks.
