In the wake of the alleged killing of a Manipuri man in the national Capital, the Naga Students' Federation has urged the state governments of the north eastern region to jointly pressurise the Centre to check the alleged inhuman treatment meted out to the people of the region in metropolitan cities.
"NSF strongly urges the state governments of the north eastern region to come together cutting across political parties and affiliations and work out a mechanisms and pressurise the central government to check the inhuman treatment against the North-East people in metropolitan cities in India," NSF President Tonpang Ozukum and General Secretary Esther Rhakho said in a statement here yesterday.
Condemning the brutal killing of Shaloni in the national Capital on Monday, NSF said "the incident has once again proven the racist attitude of the main land India, particularly in capital Delhi towards the North-East people."
It has also shown the lackadaisical attitude of the Union government in addressing the issue seriously and the slow pace in enacting a stringent law to curb racism, they said.
"Delhi police has failed in their assigned duties to protect the denizens of Delhi and yet again it happened to be to the people from the north eastern region," the NSF said.
The Federation also urged the apex North East Students' Organization (NESO) to take up such common issues with seriousness and commitment and take lead in fighting against injustice and such racist attacks against the people of the region.
