Nearly 21 pc of undertrials from Muslim community: Govt

Nearly 21 per cent of undertrial prisoners in the country are from the Muslim community while 21.30 per cent belong to the Schedule Castes, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, said that as per the data compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau, at the end of 2013, out of a total of 2,78,503 undertrials, 57,936 (20.80 per cent) were from the Muslim community.
"The number of undertrials belonging to the SC community was 59,326 (21.3 per cent)," he said replying a written question.
