Nearly 6,500 long-drawn litigations pending in various courts across the district were settled amicably in the National Lok Adalat held here.
The cases amounting to Rs 3,87,92,958 were settled and distributed to concerned litigants in the Saturday Adalat which was a grand success, said Secretary and Senior Division Civil Judge S M Aagarkar here today.
According to Aagarkar, 3,963 long pending cases were settled in the adalat while 2,476 cases were settled under the special drive launched by the district judiciary through the District Legal Service Cell adding up to a settlement of total 6,439 cases.
An amount of Rs 2 crore 21 lakh has been settled under the Motor Accident Claim law while Rs 33,33, 871 has been settled under the Arbitration Act.
A sum of Rs 6,42,450 has been recovered from litigants as fine against various offences while a sum of Rs 27,16,637 has been recovered from parties as loan dues recoveries, Aagarkar added.
Principal District Session Judge Savita T Barne had summoned a joint meeting of representatives of nationalised banks, MSEDCL, insurance companies, government officials, litigants, NGOs and others before the Lok Adalat to seek their opinion on holding such forums with a view to minimise the ever heaping litigations before courts, Aagarkar said.
Accordingly, the long pending cases liable to be settled amicably were shortlisted and parties were informed to be present at the Lok Adalat.
"We shall hold such Lok Adalats in future too so that the parties could be guided and justice be served to them in time," said Barne.
