Maharashtra government today informed the Bombay High Court that necessary infrastructure had been provided to the committee headed by Justice (retd) J A Patil, set up to probe irregularities in allotment of flats under the Chief Minister's discretionary housing quota.
The committee would have its headquarters at Pune where all the required infrastructure have been provided, government pleader Jayeshh Yagnik told a bench headed by Justice Abhay Oka.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 8.
On October 9, the High Court, which is hearing a public interest litigation filed by former journalist Ketan Tirodkar, appointed Justice Patil to the one-man probe panel. It is supposed to submit a report by April 30, 2015.
The PIL alleges that many people have got more than one flats under the CM's quota, and most of the beneficiaries are politicians or those who are close to politicians.
The committee has been directed to scrutinise all the applications for flats received since 1982 and look for the cases where a single person has got more than one flats (which is officially not permissible).
The government has so far filed FIRs against 27 persons for getting flats fraudulently.
Under the quota, the flats were supposed to be given to freedom fighters, artists, sports persons, etc. The scheme has been now stopped.
