Need for policy to check fake products: Shivraj V Patil

Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh Shivraj V Patil today advocated the need for a policy to check the menace of counterfeit items and smuggled goods.
"It should be possible for Central and state government and administration to consider what kind of policy should be drafted to check the menace of smuggling and counterfeit products," he said during a seminar on 'Problems of counterfeit, fake and smuggled goods and their impact on the economy.'
"The goal of a criminal behind counterfeits, piracy and smuggling is to make illegal profit from the reputation of an established and trusted name or brand and to deceive the consumer," he noted.

Stating that to check counterfeit and smuggling of goods, cooperation between government, industry, traders and consumer is required, he said that such kind of seminar would go a long way in creating awareness among consumers on the hazards of purchasing fake products.
