Stressing on farmer-centric progress, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh today said that a village be taken as a basic unit of development in the country.
"If the country is to progress, then direction of development is to be changed, and a village be taken up a basic unit so that farmer oriented progress be made in the country," the governor said.
He highlighted eight major key points for development of villages -- road, irrigation, education, dairy, health, security, self-employment, and self-reliance, and added that the dream of an all-round development would be seen at the grass-root level.
"India's two third population depends on agriculture, and despite it, agriculture's contribution in economic development was merely 20 per cent," he said.
The Governor also stressed on better management of power, solar energy, bio-fuel, and natural resources to achieve targets of agriculture production.
He was speaking on the occasion of the convocation at Maharan Pratap Agriculture and Technology University in Udaipur.
Altogether 1,176 graduate, 318 post-graduate, and 69 Vidhyavachaspati degrees were distributed to qualified students, according to an official release here.
