There is a need to bring students of Madrassas to the mainstream, newly-appointed Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University Zafar Sareshwala said today, hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts for the progress of the country including that of the Muslims.
Gujarat-based businessman Sareshwala, who was recently appointed as the Chancellor of Hyderabad-based MANUU, told PTI that "Prime Minister has been saying that the Muslim community can progress only through proper education and training. He has said it several times in Gujarat to educate Muslims and take them forward. He is seriously concerned about the community's progress."
In line with the Prime Minister, he said "I too believe that the progress of Muslim community lies in imparting quality education. For this, Madrassas need to be modernised and efforts need to be made to bring its students to the mainstream."
On the progress of Urdu language, Sareshwala said, "post Independence, Urdu language got associated with a particular community, which has adversely affected it. We have to bring Urdu out of such restrictions and I am working towards it at my level. The government has given me this responsibility and I will fulfil it."
Sareshwala is the fourth Chancellor of MANUU, established in 1998 to promote and develop the Urdu language and impart vocational and technical education in Urdu medium through conventional and distance modes.
