Union minister Vijay Sampla today stressed upon the need to follow teachings of the Buddha for maintaining peace in the world.
After inaugurating the two-day International Conference on 'Acharya Bodhidharma and Efflorescence of Zen Culture in East Asia' at the National Museum auditorium here, he said Indian culture is the symbol of peace and harmony and the origin of Buddhism is Indian culture.
"If the teachings of Budh Dharma have been followed, perhaps there would be no need of making atomic bombs. In the present scenario of the country, we can maintain peace and harmony by following the path shown by Budh Dharma and take the nation on the path of progress," the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment said.
The minister also inaugurated an exhibition of Seon/Zen Buddhist paintings and scrolls from Korea and Japan on the occasion. A rare Zen painting by a Korean artist titled, 'the Meditating Monk', is on display at the exhibition which is open till December 5.
Expressing hope that the sustainable results will come from the conference, Korean Ambassador Cho Hyun said this is the right time to deliberate on achieving peace in the world.
"The whole world is facing the problem of terrorism and therefore, this is the time to deliberate how we can achieve peace in the world through this International Conference," he said, adding that it will also help in strengthening bilateral relations between India and South Korea.
