Need to keep check on functioning of private schools, colleges: J-K govt

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said the education regulatory mechanism (ERM) would be strengthened to keep a check on the functioning of private educational institutions within the state and those offering courses from elsewhere in the country.
The Education Minister, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, said the government has also decided to reintroduce board exams for class 11 from the current session, a practice which was abandoned about a decade back.
There is a need to save children from falling in the trap of fraud institutions and to keep a tab on the working of private schools affiliated with different boards, the minister said while interacting with students here.

"The education department will consolidate data about affiliation status and other documentary requirements of all educational institutions functioning in the state, while it will be made mandatory for the outside colleges, universities and any other professional institutions to register itself with the education department before inviting admissions from the state, he said.
